Pages, 2026
Created in connection with Jessica Lang’s new work Pages for Pacific Northwest Ballet, this painting is part of Lang’s ongoing practice of creating an original artwork for each of her ballets.
Set to music by David Lang, including When I am Alone with voice, Pages was inspired by Lang’s time in residency at Ernest Hemingway’s cabin in Ketchum, Idaho.
Layers of muted greens, grays, earth tones, and white are interwoven with handwritten marks, gestural brushwork, and fragments of imagined text. The painting reflects the physical and emotional landscape of writing, the accumulation of thoughts, revisions, discoveries, and the quiet space in which creativity takes shape.
